A short drive from the state capital, Schenectady remains best known as General Electric's birthplace.
Get out of town with these interesting Schenectady side-trips: National Bottle Museum (in Ballston Spa), National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum (in Cooperstown) and Pail Shop Vineyards (in Fly Creek). There's still lots to do: snap pictures at Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park, indulge your thirst for a good beer at Great Flats Brewing, steep yourself in history at Historic Huguenot Street, and try your luck at Saratoga Race Course.
